Independence Day Celebration @ YMCA Kamak School, Madurai : 15 Aug 2014
Year after Year, Rotary Club of Madurai West has been celebrating India's Independence day at YMCA Kamak School, along with the children and faculties. Rotarians gather at the venue, while the school authorities make elaborate arrangements for the celebrations. After hositing the flag, our president Rtn.Ravee delivered his Independence day address. The children who are quiet special perform various drills and talent expressing acts. Our club makes breakfast arrangements for grand gathering. It is indeed a novel effort on our club to continue with this good tradition of Independence day with these special children on this special day. This year lots of new rotarians, who joined just one month back took keen interest to participate and celebrate the occasion.
Rtn.Dr.G.Vasudevan Celebrated his Birthday on 12th Aug 2014:
A Band of Rotarians gathered at the cabin of our Rtn.Dr.G.Vasudevan at Hotel Fortune Pandyan in Madurai. He was pleasantly surprised to receive us and celebrate his birthday. After brief chat, in the presence of his Chithappa PCM.Santhanam Sir, Dr.Vasu cut the Black Forest cake amidst the claps of our Rotarians. After Coffee with cookies, we dispersed.

Happy School Project : by Rotary club of Madurai West
The verdant
grounds of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Othakkadai with its
pristine buildings formed the perfect backdrop for the RI President Elect Rtn.
KR Ravindran’s first stop. Enthusiastic children lined up on either side,
clapping and chanting ‘welcome, welcome’, as each guest entered, creating a
fitting atmosphere for the ‘Happy Schools’ initiative by Rotary India Literacy
Mission.
The entire programme was confidently
executed by the children. Incidentally, the RIP – Elect in his speech later on
that day drew attention the crucial difference between Polio eradication and
Literacy programmes. While the former could be compromised by the detection of
a single case, every penny spent on literacy will yield rich dividends he
opined.
Further, he said laudable though the efforts of one
club’s project, if many clubs join hands to promote the same project the sheer
magnitude provides better visibility to Rotary. The bigger the benefit to the
community the better the visibility.
PROJECT
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Installation of 2 RO plants for
purification of drinking water.
2. Renovation of 30 toilets.
3. 144 desks and chairs provided.
4. Concrete bridge for the children to
access the school with ease from the village without using the main road (Melur
Highway)
Project Cost: 15 Lakhs.

Happy Birthday : Rtn.President Ravee : 27-July-2014
On 27th July 2014, morning by 7.00 am, a group of Rotarians from our club had gathered at the residence of Rtn. President Ravee to wish him on his birthday. The President was pleasantly surprised to see so many rotarians, early in the morning - some with the morning walking shorts!
It was indeed a happy and memorable occasion when Rtn.Ravee cut the cake and greeter his mother, who was by his side. It was a brief, but blissful event. Rtn.Manimaran had taken lots of shots in his camera and circulated them in Whatsapp. And what followed was natural - lots of birthday message to the birthday baby!
