Importance of Heritage:

Many a times, as days roll by we tend to forget the glorious past. But these events, just like palaces stand tall to talk about the history.

Celebrating Golden Jubilee, our club's glorious past is known to very few people. For instance Four of the chartered members still continue to be members of our club. They have been attending to the meeting for the past 50 years - Right from the meetings @ Udipi Hotel till today @ Hotel Fortune Pandyan!

Though our Club charter may show the installation year as 1964, many members - particularly the new members would not know the history of the club. Not only the charter members, but the past presidents, secretaries, club officials - everyone has got a story to tell - which is known only to few of us.

Hence it is imperative to document these facts which make this club's glorious past. We wish all the senior rotarians share these  interesting events, lively moments, memorable occasions. You can drop a mail with a sweet naration, if possible with accompanying photos to my email: easyinvest@gmail.com. We would publish these informations on the blog so that these facts get digitally preserved for future generations.

A Unique event in Rotary's History @ R.C.Madurai West :

In the year 1985-86 Rtn. Dr. K.A.Ramalingam was the President and Rtn. Sacs Narayanan was the Secretary. The President elect was Rtn Lalji Vora and the Vice President Rtn. Nan Narayenen

Rtn.Dr Ramalingam resigned from the club in the middle of the year and the Board offered Rtn. Lalji the post of President for the remaining part of the year PLUS his scheduled term ( One and half years). But Lalji declined saying that he has prepared himself, to take over only in July 1986. Hence the Vice President Rtn. Nan. Narayenen took over as President.

Therefore in July 1986 Nan installed Lalji as President and in this photo he is seen pinning the President's pin on Lalji. Nan then became the President-elect.

The very next year, that is in July 1987 Rtn. Lalji installed Rtn. Nan as President. In the second picture Lalji is seen handing over the charter to Nan, while Rtn. P.V.Parthasarathy, then Dist. Governor (wearing his Governor's collar) looks on with all smiles.

Nan installs Lalji and gets installed by Lalji. Perhaps it has not happened anywhere in Rotary's history so far.
